New York City is a wounderous place!! today i finally got my butt to the "new" MoMA, and it was well worth it. first - i'd like to take this time to say thanks to my dermatologist. because of his urgings to stay out of the sun, i still can pull off the college student discout at museums!!!! i saved $8 by whipping out my BU student ID, Sweet!

then i took in the musuem. there was an interesting special exhibit on safe design - they had materials, clothing, cars, buildings, space savers that are being designed this very second for the future and for now. it was really interesting to see how we may all live in the future with new types of skin protection, kevlar protection, and even new designs of chairs so when you go to a restaurant, you can hook your bag or purse under the chair so no one will steal it - genius!

i also didn't realize that the MoMA has van Gogh's Starry Night and Dali's persistence of memory. they also have a ridiculous amount of picasso's. a great room of all piet mondrian. one really awesome series from water lillies, and some really great jackson pollock - including my favorite one: number 31 1950. and then of course the contemporary stuff, which some of it might give me nightmares.

so if you're in NYC anytime soon - or you live close by - get on the v train and get to the MoMA. it rocked!!!

oh- and happy halloween!

how was your weekend??? i bet you went to some sort of halloween-ish party. i don't get dressing up for halloween as a "grown up". i think it's pretty lame. lame the same way valentine's day is lame. if i were of elementary school age, dressing up would be fun. you get to pick something you like and dress as it. pretty cool. AND after you get all dressed you can shake down your neighbors for some candy that you won't finish until easter rolls around. that is fun. but as an adult??? i mean how uninventive is the "naughty nurse" or the "sluty devil" or a french maid. those my dear readers are L.A.M.E! (i apologize if any of you dressed up as those - i had hoped you would've been more inventive)

BUT on the other hand, the New York football Giants DRUBBED the redskins today and the eagles lost miserably. yay football!

and does anyone else find this funny...my two roommates sitting on either side of our couch, each with their own remote for the same tv - one turns the sound up, and when she's not looking the other turns the sounds down. now THAT'S comedy

i saw "good night, and good luck" the new george clooney movie about edward r. murrow and joe mccarthy. it was EXCELLENT and i highly reccommend it. you know the older i get the more george clooney gets more attractive. i never really thought he was, but he is quite the good looker!!

yesterday i had lunch with my cousin who works at pfizer pharmacutical. we had a lovely lunch at the pfizer cafeteria and was very tasty. i wish my office had a working lunchroom. that would be awesome. AND i got some lovely free pfizer stuff....like big things of purell and some listerine stuff that i think someone else will get.

that's it for now.....good night, and good luck

Thursday, October 20, 2005

to kick off the fall - me and the boy went pumpkin and apple picking. and let me tell you - i think most of the garden state had been there before us and left very little left for the picking - but that didn't stop us!! somehow we managed to get 12 pounds of apples - and then i attempted my first apple pie.......and IT IS GREAT!!! i made it just like mom's, so that made me happy. i made my own crust too - which i was a little nervous about, but it was easy peasy.

i also got to pick some wildflowers - i made myself a lovely bouquet . and soon i will try and make an apple/pear tart. wish me luck!

holy crap!! my mom just told me that my 19 year old cousin who just got married this summer- who's just a sophomore in college is now.....PREGNANT!!! wow, i guess she was quite excited to be with her husband in the biblical sense! (you see, this is the holy roller side of the family. she and her family were missionaries in iceland - why iceland? apparently the seals needed some salvation!!)

you missed an exciting apartment crawl this weekend. the 70s were a-rockin' at my place. the only downfall of oktoberfest was the complete LACK of good german music. ...an umm-pah-pa is all i was looking for, hell i'd even settle for ramstein, david haselhoff or Nena and her 99 luftballoons for heaven's sake!!!!

the loss to the cowboys today was not too heartbreaking for me. my team did get my hopes up with the late game tying touchdown only to break my heart by losing the coin toss. wait....they broke my heart by playing like crap today. i almost forgot.

this week me and the boy are headed off to go apple picking and then i will be making my 1st attempt at making an apple pie. i'll let you know how it goes.

ps - i'm STILL looking for a new job....i'll take whatever ya got!!

i saw one of the best movies of the year....wallace and grommit and the curse of the were-rabbit!!! it was FANTASTIC!!! and we should all go out an support aardman since their studios in england just burnt down - how sad. i think that's where they kept most of their masters - which is even MORE upsetting!!! so go and see this good movie with someone - cuz it's definetly better with another person! and i've realized that lately i've fallen in love with using exclamation points!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (we here with the funkmeister truly apologize)

so i'm trying to stay nice and dry today - i think i might need to build an ark soon. stop by and help out - this way you'll be assured of getting on the boat! but in the mean time i'm having a cup o'joe and waiting for the chocolate chip muffins to cool down a bit - YUM

this weekend was one busy one for me. not only did i aquire a cold, which tried to knock me on my ass, but i had to get up early on saturday to proctor the S.A.T. and then work til 3:15 AM watching baseball then back to the office at 1 pm on sunday to stay there til midnight and then back to work at noon on monday. so you see, i was quite the busy little girl and Nyquil was my best friend.

but today i am feeling much better - i know this because i can finally taste a cup of coffee!!

this week i must go shopping for decorations for a 70s themed party. do you have any suggestions?!?! i could use the help!!!

Thursday, October 06, 2005

so i took a little trip to my dermatologist, and everything is a-ok! not that i was worried about anything, but it's always nice to get the confirmation.

in the baseball world - kind of sad the yanks blew the lead last night. BUT happy that boston is down 2-0 in the best of 5....let's go chicago!!!

in other news, who else is excited for the new wallace and grommit movie?!?!? i can't wait!

last night me, els and jenn took a trip "across the narrows" to see a FABULOUS showat the richmond county ball park!! it was a very cool place to see a show. right on the water, cool view, and the perfect temp for an outdoor show. els and i caught the end of kasbian - not bad. the guitairst was very cute. then the LEMONHEADS! aaah - they took me right back to working at the zoo and listening to the radio. then the excitement began. doves came on next - i had never heard of them, but they were awesome too!!! i think i may need to go pick up their cd. then jet came on, which i had missed them earlier this year when they opened for oasis. jet played their entire album - which was cool. us three lovely ladies had a great view of the stage standing about 20 people deep. not bad. we tried to stay there for when oasis came on, but the crowd was just too overwhelming, so we made our way off to the side - which worked out great!!! we could see everything, and we def. had enough room to dance around like fools! PLUS - we got to see one of the guys from the band jet, but he was with a girl, so i chickened out and didn't say anything. sometimes i AM a wuss!!!

oasis was really good. i was kind of disappointed that they played all the same songs as when i saw them in june - but then again they were my favorite oasis songs so i can't complain too much. the only thing is that i thought maybe there would be more people at the show. once we stepped away from the crowd up by the stage, it didn't seem like there were many people in the park - which is kind of sad. and i do wish that the across the narrows had some sort of live hook-up with keyspan park in brooklyn. it would've been cool to have oasis and beck do like a song together or something. maybe next year......

on saturday night the hoboken crew went out to celebrate the birthdays of kerwick and d-mize. good times were had by all. els even made an appearance!! (i could be wrong, but i think this was the first time in the almost 3 years she's been living here that she made it out to a bar with us in hoboken - good job els!) and i was successful in not letting d-mize take home my bf....i think i need to keep an eye on that guy!
