i was out today, running an errand for the office. i had to pick up a new piece of equipment for our rack room. after picking up this new snazzy piece of equipment, i was on my way back to the office. as i strolled down 29th street boppping along to my itunes, i was carrying a box that was slightly wider than myslef. the box was light, but a little cumbersome. as i crossed broadway, i could see out of the corner of my eye, a man stop, turn and it seems as though he is heading for me. so i'm thinking "oh my god, is he coming after me? there are a bunch of people around. do i drop this package, or possibly use it to defend myself?"

the man IS following me. as i walk a little further away from the corner, he caught up to me, and tapped me on my shoulder. so i stop (how silly, 30 seconds ago i thought he was going to attack me!)

and the man says: "excuse me, but are you that girl from tv?"
me, with a quizzical look on my face: "do you mean cynthia nixon?"
man: "what show was she on?"
me: "sex and the city"
man: "yeah, that's it. are you her?"
me: "no"
man: "are you sure??"
me: "pretty sure"
man: "oh"

now i've gotten this a few times in my life and I HATE IT!! just because i have red hair DOES NOT mean that i look like every other person in this world with red hair.

i mean really, do i really look like this??


i don't think so!!

i treated myself today to a long, overdue shopping spree. off to the outlets i went, and did not worry about a smaller budget - for the first time in FOREVER!! i hit ann taylor, to get some nice new work clothes, j.crew, gap, nine west, etc. though i did hold myself back at the north face store. i really wanted to buy EVERYTHING there! i did resist the urge to buy more purple jackets and some grey ski pants - they were slightly more expensive than i wanted to pay. i couldn't walk past the shoe rack though...50% off all their shoes! i was in boot heaven. i found the perfect pair of hiking/winter boots to supplement the great winter snow boots i got for christmas - the winter boots can get too hot to wear around for a full day, but these new ones are perfect! especially if i need to drive in them. so now i can retire my green dr. martens from snow and ice duty!

i also got some other clothes - and a new pair of jeans. like every girl, i still have a hard time finding ones that fit just great - so needless to say, i tried a ton on today. i own one pair that i can't seem to find again, so i know if i find a pair i like, i must buy in large quantities.

i'm still in need of some brown shoes, possibly with a heel and a rounded toe, but not a high heel. if you've seen a pair, let me know, PLEASE!!

oh - and i think my brackets are officially busted, but i will make that call later on tonight...go G-TOWN, or UCLA or KANSAS - depending on what pool i'm lookin' at!

two days down at the new job...and it's been fun! on monday i made it to my first staff meeting, and there was a pizza party at lunch (for someone who is pregnant in the office). the guys i work with are super duper! they're trying to teach me everything i need to know - which is a TON - but they know it will take some time, so they're starting me off slow. though i've been able to make dubs and ship them out, so at least i'm sort of productive there. and i haven't messed anything up yet - so i feel good about that! i'm just having a hard time remembring people's names - but i'm sure i'll learn them all eventually.

as of right now though, it does feel like i'm starting an internship and that at some point in time this week i will be going back to my old job. i hope that goes away soon. but i do feel like i've made the right decision - for now.

this weekend was a blast!! i spent it in the mountains of vermont skiing my troubles away!

i rode with DC girl up to the hippie enclave of burlington. a double fuck cold night was going on there....brrr!! but we had a nice time, drinking some magic hat, vermont beer and gorging ourselves on good 'ol vermont cheese! very tasty!!

friday was a perfect ski day. we met up with the other 50 odd people in our "reunion tour" and hit the trails, in more ways than one! i offically HATE moguls! i don't know how to ski over them, so i basically just fall down them. not fun. and it really slows up the other folks. i did, however, kick some ass in the lodge trivia contest - i should change my middle name to "swag". a dip in the pool, some more beer, and all was right in the world!

saturday started out good for skiing, but then the dark clouds rolled across the mountain and rain came down from the heavens. so that ended my day early - bummer. but i warmed by the fire, had some more beer, ate some tacos, and all was right with the world!

and on the way home, DC girl and i stopped back at the magic hat factory, and picked up some more treats....

so it was a fantastic weekend, and i'd like to take this opportunity to thanks mama stokes for putting it all together! you rock!!

oh - and here's a lasting memory from the weekend...sorry it's a little dark :)



and tomorrow, i start my new job!!!

saturday was the happiest day in the hobo....it was the annual st. patrick's day parade and more importantly - the annual drunk-fest! this was my first time ever participating in this event, and it was about as good as i expected. the parade part - blew! the bars were charging a gazillion dollars for cheap-ass beer, and lines were always out the door. luckily after a morning of drinking, myself along with many others, wound up at friend's houses, and not out in line for bars. (pictures will follow - need to retrieve my camera from someone's house first!)

today also is the countdown to the end of my current job. i've been here for almost 7 years, so it's not all that bittersweet. in fact, i'm ready to move on. i will miss a few people that make the day somewhat more enjoyable - but i don't think i'll miss the work!!!
